Derelict Hospital Glasgow

Originally constructed and opened as a general dispensary in 1788, this abandoned infirmary wasn't developed into a functioning hospital until 1850 after it serving as a House of Recovery for 45 years.

Since its closure in the 1980s, some of the infirmary buildings have been developed into private-owned flats whilst the rest of the hospital sits still vacant. Of what remains, there are four floors accessible within the building via three main staircases and one smaller set of stairs towards the edge of the property. Despite their being unusable, elevators intended for patient-use remain alongside service lifts.

Entire wings of the hospital are accessible, however, their condition has severely deteriorated since the infirmary was in operation with wallpaper tearing away from the walls and entire roofs giving way.

Some of the particularly interesting rooms within the property include;

It is not only the structure itself which is indicative of the hospital's past as within the building are a range of items left behind since the 1900s.

A few items which are not photographed yet remain within the building are hospital leaflets scattered across a desk in the basement, fire exit signs, kitchen utilities, fire procedure posters and washing machines within the laundry room. The main staircases and windows however are the building's statement artefacts.

Whilst the infirmary was in operation, multiple reports of the site being haunted were heard with numerous individuals claiming to hear disembodied whispers, footsteps and witness beds moving of their own accord. Also, apparitions of a grey lady and a man dragging a body bag through the halls were reported (Collins, 2014).
